What motivates polling staff members?

7 Nov , 2019

University of Vienna and wahlbeobachtung.org / Election-Watch.EU undertake joint research study with the support of all political parties represented in parliament with the aim to strengthen electoral practices in Austria.

Political parties are increasingly encountering difficulties in finding interested and motivated citizens to take on the role as polling station commission member. Wahlbeobachtung.org / Election-Watch.EU has been advocating to open the system of polling station commission members to also include interested citizens who are not nominated by political parties. While the system of conducting elections with the active engagement of citizens is recommendable wahlbeobachtung.org / Election-Watch.EU recommends to strengthen the role of polling station commission members with better training,  adequate allowances and greater support.

To learn more about what motivates polling station commission members to volunteer for this task, wahlbeobachtung.org / Election-Watch.EU jointly with the University of Vienna has conducted an online questionnaire which can be uploaded online: http://bit.ly/umfrage-wahlbeisitz-2019
