Vienna, 16 October 2020: wahlbeobachtung.org conducted an assessment of the 11 October municipal elections in Vienna and the appropriateness of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, under the aspect of international human rights standards. The study was based on desk research and interviews with the Vienna municipal election office, the election office of the Ministry of Interior, municipal health authorities, electoral staff, political parties, the postal services provider and civil society organisations. Alongside the authors from wahlbeobachtung.org external experts and analysts from Austria contributed to the study. A guest commentary by wahlbeobachtung.org about the Viennese municipal and District Council Elections under Covid-19 conditions was published in the Austrian daily Wiener Zeitung on 16 October.
